Terms and Conditions:
Places will be offered to those on the waiting list first.
The total course cost is £986. Both the deposit and full course payment are refundable under reasonable circumstances, but any refund requests must be made before the 15th of May 2025.
Full payment will be requested in May 2025, after which a bespoke kit will be created just for you.
Please bear in mind that the sessions are live and will not be recorded if you miss any. You will be supported throughout the course with extra guidance provided if you cannot make one or two sessions.
The groups are very small, with only nine participants, to make sure that everyone can get enough support throughout the course.
I will encourage you to keep the camera on during the sessions, so everyone can enjoy the stitching experience together.
For those who would like to stitch and chat, sessions will be slightly extended. Tuition time is two hours, with 30 minutes before the sessions available as optional social time, to settle in or ask any questions. You can join only for the two hours of tuition, or you can join earlier depending on how busy you are that day.
THE ART OF STUMPWORK
The design is a progression for those who have stitched the Elizabethan Moth. It builds on similar techniques adding even more exciting elements.
The Elizabethan Rose course is a time machine, taking you through the educational embroidery journey of a young girl from a noble background who was passionate and artistic about embroidery and loved to explore embroidery techniques!

WHAT WILL WE LEARN?
Goldwork Techniques
We will explore couching with various metal threads, such as Japanese and passing threads, gimp, twist, and pearl purl. Outlining and couching will create texture, ligh, and shadow on the rose stems, while cutwork with bright checks adds striking patterns to the frame.
Surface Embroidery Techniques
Inspired by 17th-century stumpwork roses, we will create satin-stitched leaf patterns and use padded shapes for dimension. Handmade cords and two couching methods will be used, with embellishments like spangles, freshwater pearls and crystal pearls for extra detail.
Stumpwork Techniques
We will recreate raised needlelace elements, similar to those found on caskets, with gold threads, drawing inspiration from historic pieces like a rose from a Met Museum cabinet panel.

WHO IS IT FOR?
This class is perfect for anyone interested in exploring historical embroidery and stitching with silk and metal threads. I warmly welcome students of all levels, as I believe with some practice, anyone can master any technique. If you have stitched my Elizabethan Moth or any of my other designs, you are more than welcome to join. We will have plenty of sessions to enjoy the process without rushing, and you might even finish your piece by the final session!

WHERE AND WHEN?
The class is taught online over Zoom for a period of 8 sessions, with each session being 2 hours long. If anyone requires extra help with practising embroidery techniques, additional time could be offered before or after the class to address any difficulties. I will also be available to answer your questions or check your progress by email between lessons.

WHAT IS IN THE KIT?
I will use the best materials available from UK and EU niche suppliers to make a bespoke kit for you. I will hand-print the design for you on a piece of linen. Silk threads will be wound for our class by the British dyers and weavers DeVere Yarns. Gilt metal threads, along with various spangles, will be made to order following traditional practices here in the UK. I will choose the best dainty pearls, include needles, and make and print stitching charts and instructions.
There will be something else for you to discover in your kit, which I am not going to reveal just yet—but it is something I enjoyed adding to kits for my previous courses. Your kit will be sent ahead of the course once it is made.
Equipment needed: a 10-inch ring frame, good light, a magnifier, a ruler, a velvet board (bead tray or piece of felt), a mellor or laying tool to guide silk threads, and a sharp pencil. I will send you a list of equipment with suppliers ahead of the course.

WHAT IS THE COURSE COST?
The course costs £986 and includes three and a half months of tuition, all materials and delivery to your country.
The group size is limited to nine people.
